If you’re getting this email, you already know how much I love automation.

Seriously, I could talk about automation in my sleep. (I probably do talk about automation in my sleep…)

But, even as an automation expert, there’s one thing I’m always keeping in mind:

Over-automating is a real thing.

Automating to make your life easier is a beautiful thing. Automating so many things that your life is harder is not.

If the automation bug has bitten you, it’s important to keep this in mind. It’s easy to want to automate everything, but there are a few things to keep in mind as you take your automation level from 0 to 100.

Here are 3 signs you might need to scale back your automation efforts:

  1. You’re spending more time running the automation than you would doing the actual task.

    Automation should ALWAYS save you time. If it’s not saving time, then it’s not worth it. You’re better off just doing the tasks manually.

  2. You’re spending more money than the time you’re saving.
